Site/Setback Inspection Change - Effective June 1, 2026
Boone County Resource Management is implementing a policy change for new construction projects including those with onsite wastewater systems. Effective June 1, 2026, a site and setback inspection must be completed before Boone County will issue either a building permit or an onsite wastewater permit for new construction. This requirement applies to all new structures and is intended to confirm that the proposed structure, onsite wastewater system, wells, property lines, easements, stream buffers, flood zones and other relevant setbacks are properly identified before permits are approved; all of which are required to be staked by the applicant or a surveyor if necessary.
Once the permit application is accepted it will be reviewed and you will be notified when you are able to schedule a site and setback inspection.
This policy does not apply to remodels or repairs unless the scope of work requires a new or relocated onsite wastewater system or if the original building was constructed illegally.
No construction shall begin until the site and setback inspection has been approved and the permit(s) has been issued. The purpose of this change is to reduce permitting delays, identify potential site conflicts earlier in the process, and help ensure that proposed construction complies with applicable Boone County and State of Missouri requirements before work begins.
Contractors are encouraged to coordinate early with property owners, soil evaluators, installers, surveyors, and Resource Management staff to ensure that all necessary site information is available before submitting permit applications.
Please contact our office with any questions about this policy or how it may apply to a specific project.
Demolition Permits - Effective June 1, 2026
Beginning June 1, 2026, Boone County Resource Management will begin administering no-charge Demolition Permits in order to identify when structures have been removed from property and to ensure that debris has been removed. These permits will not apply to remodel work, but only when a structure is being completely removed.
