Investigations Unit
The Investigations Unit is tasked with performing in-depth criminal investigations in Boone County. Detectives assigned to the Investigations Unit are experienced, skilled deputies. They use a wide variety of investigative techniques to perform detailed investigations that involve crimes against persons, crimes against property, computer crimes, and drug crimes. Detectives are also tasked with managing the sex offender registry.
The Investigations Unit includes the following specialized teams.
Boone County Sheriff's Office Cyber Crimes Task Force
The Boone County Sheriff's Office Cyber Crimes Task Force, created in 2007, is a cooperative effort between participating Mid-Missouri law enforcement agencies across an eight-county area located in central Missouri that includes Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Cole, Cooper, Howard, Moniteau, and Randolph counties. It is the mission of the Task Force to provide law enforcement services to the Mid-Missouri area related to computer, Internet, and other technology related criminal investigations with an emphasis on the detection and investigation of Internet and technology related crimes committed against children. These services are provided through investigation, forensic examination, and education. The Task Force is a Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children (MOICAC) affiliated task force.
Directed Patrol Unit
A specialized group within the Investigations Unit, the Direct Patrol Unit (DPU), consists of both uniformed and plain clothes deputies. Deputies assigned to this detail are highly motivated, experienced, and self-directed. This unit, through intelligence-led policing, is tasked with investigating the criminal activity of career criminals, drug dealers, violent offenders, weapons violators, and arresting felony fugitives.
