COLUMBIA, Mo. (April 29, 2026) - On Monday, June 1-5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Boone County Office of Emergency Management will host the third annual Girls in Emergency Management (GEM) Camp. This free five-day camp is intended to empower and educate young women interested in a career in emergency management, public safety, and government.
Throughout the program, campers will participate in a wide range of activities, including managing simulated disaster scenarios, touring local government and public service organizations, and engaging with professionals from local, state, and federal government.
All high-school-aged young women who reside in Boone County are eligible to participate. Interested individuals should apply at https://www.boonemo.gov/oem/gem.asp by May 18 at 11:59 p.m.to be considered for the program.
Last year, the Boone County Office of Emergency Management received the 2025 Missouri Association of Counties (MAC) County Achievement Award for GEM. Founded in 1972, MAC is a nonprofit organization that supports member counties with issues involving local, state, and federal government. BCOEM is honored to host this year’s event and looks forward to welcoming partners and colleagues back to the Boone County Emergency Communications Center.
